WELCOME TO PHD EVENTS

The PHD Festival celebrates and educates the evolution of Hip-Hop culture and original street dances from around the world. Featuring world-renowned pioneers of dance and Hip-Hop, we offer unique and exclusive learning and development opportunities for dance practitioners, students, creatives and Hip-Hop enthusiasts alike. Following the success of our first two events since PHD launched in November 2013, our third edition took place in November 2014 over three days across three new venues in Brixton, London; The Ritzy Cinema, Black Cultural Archives heritage centre and Lambeth Town Hall. Activities over the weekend comprised of:

  • Dance workshops focusing on the genres of House, Hip-Hop, Popping, Booglaoo, Waving, Tutting and Top Rock
  • Panel discussions featuring leading UK and US pioneers in Hip-Hop dance and culture
  • Documentary film screenings
  • ‘World Street Dance: The Roots’ live performance
  • DJ & MC showcases
  • Tbo Art Exhibition
  • 7 to Smoke All Styles dance battle

  • Networking for professionals
